This is an English summary of the official rules. The Chinese rules prevail, and any updates will be posted on this page.
Eligibility
Eligibility
- Innovation or startup teams substantially led by NTU students. The lead applicant must be an NTU student (undergraduate, master’s or doctoral) at the time of application.
- Team members may include students from other universities, NTU alumni and others outside NTU. Faculty advisors may not be the lead applicant.
- Entries must already have a concrete plan, product prototype, service model or early working result.
- Work arising from a master’s or doctoral thesis or a research project is welcome. It must make a clear innovative contribution and show technical validation, a prototype, real-world use or a concrete application scenario. Judges look at innovation, working or validated results and potential impact, not publication count or academic standing.
- Teams that have formed a company or received grants may apply. Teams that have taken equity investment from a venture capital firm, a company or another institution before the application deadline are not eligible.
- Entries should in principle have been completed within the past year, or have made significant progress within the past year, such as a breakthrough, technical validation or real-world use (counted back from the application deadline).
- The same work may not be entered more than once, including by splitting or renaming it. A team may submit different, substantially distinct entries.
- For work from a faculty-led research project or lab, the students must have taken a substantial part in the core innovation and obtained the advisor’s or research team’s consent to compete and present publicly. Taking part does not change existing intellectual property or ownership of research results.

Selection
Judging
| Stage | Details |
|---|---|
| Stage 1 · Written review | Five judges with innovation, startup and industry experience review the applications and select 12 finalists. |
| Stage 2 · Final pitch | The same five judges score the final. All 12 teams pitch in one session, 6 minutes each, with no live Q&A. After the last pitch, the audience votes for the Most Popular Award. |
| Stage 3 · Awards evening | The Innovation Award, Excellence Award and Most Popular Award are presented at Innovation Night, where all finalists are recognized. |
Judges consider each entry in light of its nature and stage, looking at:
- Innovation
- Working or validated results
- Value of the application (industry use or social impact)
- Future potential
Research-based entries do not need a company, revenue or commercial launch.
